ABOUT HISTORIC HOMES PHILLY
Historic Homes Philly is a place to share the history, hard work, and pride that has gone into Philly’s historic homes. These aren’t just old houses. They’ve been passed down through generations. They’ve been remodeled, updated, or added to. Some have been preserved and maintained while others have been painstakingly restored to their original beauty. Be it labors of love, brilliant investments, or full-blown money pits, I want to celebrate them, their owners, and their histories.
Erik J. Brown is a Realtor and writer based out of the Mt. Airy neighborhood of Philadelphia. He is a member of the Greater Philadelphia Association of Realtors, West Mount Airy Neighbors, Historic Germantown, The Athenaeum of Philadelphia, and the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia.
When he isn’t selling historic homes, writing about historic homes, or taking care of his own historic home, you can see him out and about in Northwest Philly with his Shiba Inu/Eldritch Horror, Charlie.
Where I live
O, The Oprah Magazine once said about Mt. Airy: “Welcome to a neighborhood where people of just about every race, religion, class, belief system, and sexual orientation come together and play very nicely, thank you.”
That article was published in April of 2006 and it’s still true today. Northwest Philadelphia is undergoing a massive revitalization but unlike some gentrifying neighborhoods in the US, the NW Philly community is a big part of that effort. Community members are very involved in maintaining the history and diversity of their neighborhood while welcoming new neighbors and businesses.
